How to Check Filament Before a Long Print

Can the loaded spool finish an unattended job?

Work through the process

  1. Slice with the final support and adhesion settings.
  2. Measure the available net mass on the loaded spool.
  3. Add a deliberate allowance and compare against that single spool.

Formula and worked illustration

A 260 g estimate with 10% allowance requires 286 g. A spool with 300 g leaves a planned 14 g.

Inputs and limits

Two half-full spools do not ensure a continuous print. A runout sensor, an accessible pause and a compatible replacement need their own operating plan.

Use the Enough Filament Checker to change the assumptions and compare your own inputs. Examples here are illustrative calculations, not results from a physical print test.
