How to Convert Filament Grams to Meters

How can a mass reading be compared with a length-based estimate?

Work through the process

  1. Choose grams or kilograms for the input.
  2. Enter measured diameter and the supplier’s density.
  3. Convert and retain a few extra grams for uncertainty.

Formula and worked illustration

For 1000 g of 1.75 mm PLA at 1.24 g/cm³, length = 1000 ÷ (π × 0.875² × 1.24) = 335.28 m.

Inputs and limits

This is a geometric estimate of solid filament. It does not predict printed object volume or account for extrusion calibration.

Use the Filament Weight & Length Converter to change the assumptions and compare your own inputs. Examples here are illustrative calculations, not results from a physical print test.
